Summer Camp
Sugar Roots Farm Outdoor Summer Camp is offered for four weeks throughout May and June 2026 and is rooted in our Free Range Kids philosophy, which values unstructured, child-led play as a powerful way to learn and grow.
When campers join us, they can expect an immersive five-day experience in nature where curiosity leads the way—blending arts and crafts, scientific inquiry, outdoor exploration, and the joy of forming new friendships with both peers and our farm animals.
Within this flexible, play-based framework, our camp curriculum introduces campers to seed saving and pollination, diverse ecosystems, the earth’s natural cycles, human impact on the planet, and the abundant magic of the natural world.

Free Range Kids is our thoughtfully designed approach to childhood that prioritizes unstructured, child-led play—a practice widely recognized by child development experts as essential for healthy growth. Rather than filling every moment with adult-directed activities, children are given the time, space, and trust to explore their interests, test ideas, take age-appropriate risks, and learn through experience. At Sugar Roots Farm, this looks like kids choosing their own adventures: climbing, building, creating art, caring for animals, investigating nature, or quietly observing the world around them.
Research shows that unstructured play supports the development of confidence, creativity, independence, resilience, and social skills. Our no-screen, nature-based farm setting provides the ideal environment for this kind of learning, allowing imagination and curiosity to take the lead. With attentive adults nearby to ensure safety and offer gentle guidance, children are free to direct their play, collaborate with peers, and build confidence through meaningful experiences—including optional farm chores that introduce responsibility and stewardship in a natural, engaging way. In short, Free Range Kids Camp blends science, nature, and play to support how kids learn best.
