our roots run deep
Chief Executive Director
Brooke Bullock is a graduate of Loyola University’s Environmental Science Program, where she studied Animal Behavior and Ecology. Brooke comes from a family of farmers in Upstate, NY, and has worked on a number of small organic vegetable farms on the east coast. Brooke previously managed Okra Abbey, a “giving garden” in Pigeon Town which addressed the city’s food deserts by providing home-insecure folks and families with free, fresh produce and weekly meals prepared by renowned local chefs.
Brooke is also a migrant and indigenous rights activist, having worked for the Pointe-Aux-Chien Native American Tribe as an archivist for their Federal Recognition Project, and Mano en Mano, an organization that helps migrant farmers and their families access health care and education.
Brooke looks forward to using her background in outdoor and alternative education to develop an inclusion-based curriculum and better serve schools in the Greater New Orleans area. She also plans to apply principles of biodynamics and permaculture to Sugar Roots Farm to enhance its sustainability.
