Who we are
LEADING A COMMUNITY TO SUSTAINABLE
LIVING THROUGH FARM TO FORK
Our roots run deep
Meet the founder
Sharessa Garland left New York to call New Orleans home in 2010. Shortly after she saw a need for a place close enough to NOLA where her and her kids could explore farm life and every thing the great outdoors has to offer. With the support of members of the community, Garland found the perfect location in Orleans Parish to make her vision a reality.
Sugar roots farm is a working farm and provides select produce and goods to the community. They also collect New Orleans food waste to feed their livestock and to make compost, reducing what goes into our landfill. Our animals and the earth benefit from using food waste.
Sugar Roots Farm brings farm life to kids of all ages for hands-on farm tours and interaction with farm animals through kids' camps, birthday parties, and school field trips. Our mission is to foster compassion and physical wellness in the metro NOLA communities through farm-to-fork education. Sugar Roots is dedicated to making a positive impact on our children by teaching them how to feed themselves using a sustainable, free-range working farm model.
